About the only bleak industrial wastelands - if the vibe I'm thinking you were implying at is correct - left in the North are either doing all that 'urban regeneration' bollocks or having a mosque built at every third corner so I don't think the climate's the same nowadays as it was back in the dark depths of Thatchula's iron grip on power.

Off the top of my head I can only genuinely think of less than a handful of grind-ish bands in the UK overall let alone ones from bleak places.

The extreme music scene in this country hasn't produced much decent fare for quite a few years to be honest, 90% of new bands seem preoccupied with either following the same old tired br00tal slamz path or just generally being shit.

Then again, I'm looking at it from a viewpoint of not really being into doom or thrash-type bands so I'm probably blinkered.

Some good stuff in the heathen metal scene(I hate that term but can't really think of a better one - it's not really a scene either - what a pansy phrase). One of the best ones are from the Brum area

I prefer calling them Necrogayfist.

I also find it interesting that despite them being older than Psycroptic, Necrophagist have always sounded like Psycroptic if they were crap.
