Eïs (Geist) - Kainsmal (2CD) 12.00
http://www.myspace.com/geistmetal
Originally published in 2006 by Cold Dimensions the long sold out second album of EÏS (former GEÏST) receives its well deserved re-release. Arriving with new artwork, liner notes, a bonus cover song of CARPATHIAN FORESTs selftitled tune and newly recorded guitar tracks plus the original album as a bonus CD, this 2CD super jewelcase presents the definite edition of “Kainsmal”: Northern mid-nineties style aristocratic black metal - utmost furious, raging, embittered and autumnal.
Eïs (Geist) - Patina (2CD) 12.00

Helrunar - Sól II - Zweige der Erinnerung (digipak) 13.00
Helrunar - Sól I - Der Dorn im Nebel (digipack) 13.00
http://www.myspace.com/helrunarhorde
Three years after "Baldr Ok Íss", Helrunar now set about erecting a memorial in their own honour. "Sól" are two conceptionally linked albums of tremendous depth, combining contradictory attributes such as catchiness and complexity in the brace of icy Black Metal sounds.
Lyrics-wise, Helrunar's aim with "Sól" is nothing less than the attempt to revive mythical language and contents, thus opening up a whole new approach of handling mythical symbols and subject matter. Helrunar transfer this spiritual, at times surreal narrative style to the dynamics of their 100-minutes opus, effortlessly transcending the dogma-riddled genre. Pagan Black Metal has never been as oppressive and credible as it is on "Sól."
Musicwise, "Der Dorn im Nebel" establishes the concept of "Sól" with classical and direct Pagan Black Metal, while the lyrics outline the individual's struggle against and for itself.
With "Zweige der Erinnerung" the struggle of the individual reaches a new dimension: Supported by more experimental and more complex Pagan Black Metal in atmosphere, the focus lies on the conflict of individual and society.

Lifelover - Sjukdom (digipak) 13.00
Lifelover - Sjukdom (box) 34.00
http://www.last.fm/music/Lifelover
Lifelover, one of extreme metal's best-kept secrets, return to stake their claim for supremacy with the dark and defiant "Sjukdom". Following their critical acclaim afforded 2008's cathartic "Konkurs", these elusive and mysterious misanthropes venture down an even more daring path with Sjukdom whereby the extremes of the characteristically idiosyncratic Lifelover sound are pushed to their utmost limit: the bittersweet melodies become more beautiful whilst the pulsing, coal-black heaviness becomes uglier. What results is a slit-wrist adventure deeper into the unknown, with only Lifelover as the guide…

Dornenreich - Flammentriebe (CD) 10.80
Dornenreich - Flammentriebe (DIGI) 13.00
http://www.last.fm/music/Dornenreich
In February 2001, Dornenreich set up a ground-breaking monument to themselves and the world of poetic Black Metal with their third album, "Her von welken Nächten." Almost to the day ten years later, they are returning with "Flammentriebe" – an album that as their first Black Metal release since 2001 picks up the thread music-wise as well as in terms of the line-up: for the first time since "Her von welken Nächten," Eviga is joined again by drummer Gilvan and violinist Inve on a Dornenreich metal album.

This past decade has left deep marks on the Austrian sound poets: the youthful Sturm und Drang of "Her von welken Nächten" is definitely a thing of the past. Their magical seventh album "Flammentriebe" is surrounded by an aura that is as tormented as it is blazing, making this recording a lambent tribute to the principles of raw and archaic Black Metal – a release that more than fulfils the listeners' appetite for an album just like this.

Although the song lyrics may be considerably more embittered than before, they are nonetheless still defined by the idea of the circle as the centre of all doing. As always, they are an elemental part of the whole and emphasize Dornenreich's high artistic demands. The bitterness can be sensed in the music as well: thundering drum parts and hypnotic violin melodies unite with Eviga's painful screams and feverish guitar play to a Black Metal wildfire that, like in homage to their own work, cites all of the band's creative periods to date in a subtle and considered manner. This album is as hypnotic and painful as fire.

Before The Dawn - Soundscape of Silence (digipack) € 12.00
Before The Dawn - My Darkness (digipack) € 12.00
Before The Dawn - Deadlight (digipack w/2 bonustracks) € 12.00
Before The Dawn - Decade Of Darkness EP (CD+DVD) € 13.00
http://www.last.fm/before+the+dawn
Thus we focus on the EP. It starts with three new songs. As usual the quality is high. ‘Decade Of Darkness’ starts with clean vocals of Lars Eikind (one of my favourite vocalists, who impressed me earlier with its presence in Winds, Age Of Silence and the stoner band Honcho), followed by Tuomas’ delicious growls. A beautiful guitar solo is next. ‘End Of Days’ is a catchy track with lively leads. The sentence “first snow is starting to fall” struck me, since the new record starts with an intro called ‘The First Snow’. The music of Before The Dawn has a frostbitten edge and perfectly fits with this winter season. ‘Insomnia’ makes my flesh creep! Sensitive vocals even remind me of Antimatter. Captivating! What leaps to the eye is that the band still uses keyboards here, in this song even soaring synthesizers. The rest of the MCD is filled with a studio version and a live version of ‘Painless’ and that was the Japanese bonus track for ‘Deadlight’. Finally a live version of the hit ‘Deadsong’ (it was used in a Finnish TV show and for a video game) and a symphonic version of that song. That means a totally different approach with classical piano, strings and only the marvellous, clean vocals of Eikind. Fans of melancholic dark metal – they ought to call it melodic doom/death as well – will do well by purchasing this together with the new album ‘Deathstar Rising’, then you are updated and ready to enjoy this excellent band in sound and vision.

Ordog - Remorse € 9.90
http://www.last.fm/music/Ordog
The third album from this Finnish bands sees them moving from pure blood funeral doom into more bleak, melancholic brand of death/doom metal.

Thromdarr - Electric Hellfire € 10.20
http://www.last.fm/music/Thromdarr
Thromdarr performs aggressive and poetic metal music. Stylistically Thromdarr enriches the greatness of the heavy and thrash metal of the 80's with the death and black metal nuances. Extremely heavy guitar walls and beautiful keyboard melodies complete the experience.
Thromdarr has been around since the late 80's and now they are stronger than ever with a new powerful line-up. The troops of Thromdarr have been fortified with a new singer, a second guitarist and a keyboardist. As a result of the updated line-up, the stories are now told with the aggression and agony they should be told with.
For those interested of scene points, the band features three Skepticism members.

Witheria - Vanishing Order € 10.20
http://www.last.fm/music/Witheria
‘Vanishing Order’ has again become a powerful album by these Finns and will surely appeal to fans of bands with the likes of Necorphagist, The Crown, and Legion Of The Damned (Lords of Metal)

Coprolith - Cold Grief Relief € 10.20
Haemorrhage - Anatomical Inferno € 12.00
Haemorrhage - Emetic Cult € 12.00
Haemorrhage - Grume € 12.00
National Napalm Syndicate - Devolution Of Species € 7.80
Oranssi Pazuzu - Muukalainen Puhuu € 10.20

Eibon La Furies - The Blood of the Realm 12,00
http://www.myspace.com/eibonlafuries
The music drips with atmosphere and to a certain extent theatre, with some of the narrative coming across as prose from a dark play rather than mere vocals. There is an obvious cinematic influence at play as well as a keen sense of avant-garde black metal. To attempt to dissect the sound of this madness would be folly, but suffice it to say that you won't have heard anything like this before and I can assure you that this is worthy of your attention.

Folge Dem Wind - Inhale The Sacred Poison 12,00
http://www.myspace.com/folgedemwindofficiel
Inhale the Sacred Poison is a raw, often dissonant, and frequently cacophonic, experimental black metal outing that will unquestionably take some time for the average listener to understand. This is a strikingly original, and at times groundbreaking, album that is filled with strokes of genius. Folge Dem Wind's second full-length is lacking a bit in the consistency department, but it shows a band with an adventurous attitude and original sound - that certainly doesn't go unnoticed by me.

Raven Woods - Enfeebling The Throne (slipcase) 12,00
http://www.myspace.com/ravenwoods
When listening to "Enfeebling The Throne" I found that I was reminded of bands like Behemoth, Nile and Melechesh. The band takes the best parts of Blackened Death Metal and then blends them with middle eastern melodies. While the music is at times reminiscent of other bands, I never found it to be anything but fresh sounding. Raven Woods have definitely made this sound their own.

Saille - Irreversible Decay 12,00
http://www.facebook.com/saillemetal
For myself and hopefully countless others, Saille's arrival is a welcome and oh-so refreshing one. Despite its title, Irreversible Decay shows that symphonic black metal's decay was indeed not irreversible. The resulting music is absolutely loaded with killer tremolo riffage, well-placed Baroque passages, surprising variety with the keys (keep an ear out for the Hammond sound), some great lead work, and insanely-skilled drumming. Saille therefore finds themselves channeling and expanding upon bands such as Emperor, Keep of Kalessin, and even Vreid.

Syn Ze Sase Tri - Intre Doua Lumi (digipack) 12,00
http://www.myspace.com/synzesasetri
Described as a mix between the sound of early Dimmu Borgir and the last Negura Bunget, this band is in effect linked to the Romanian band, as the two guitarists Corb and Spin were into NB from 2009 to 2010, writing most of "Virstele Pamintului" album and playing during the next tour, before deciding to back to their first band. Anyway, Syn Ze Sase Tri is quite different from Negura Bunget, being more epic, symphonic and closer to European Pagan Metal scene, but without loosing their strong Transilvanian source which makes this band dark and obscure.

Unmoored - Indefinite Soul-Extension (digipack) 12,00
http://myspace.com/unmoored
Indefinite Soul-Extension combines elements of death metal, melodic death, Gothenburg, and progressive metal. The riffing at times is very crunchy and heavy like many death acts, but then it's more atmospheric, prog-like, and then again it's a bit on the Gothenburg side, with the Maiden-esque harmony riffs. The drumming is superb, Henrik Schönström does a helluva job keeping this whole album sounding progressive and epic, yet brutal and heavy. Christian Älvestam's vocals are great, mixing some pretty melodic harsh vocals (ala Gothenburg but with a bit more balls), and some great sounding clean vocals that give any renowned metal singer a run for their money.

Tyranny - Bleak Vistae MCD 7.80
Tyranny - Tides of Awakening CD 9.00
http://www.last.fm/music/Tyranny
Bleak and crushing, 'Tides Of Awakening' pushes the bounds of drone-paced Metal to the limit, delivering one of the most sluggish-yet-justifiably drawn out records I have heard in many years.

Pantheist - s/t CD 12.00
http://www.myspace.com/pantheistuk
Pantheist have succeeded in making a very hard album to categorise, and for that they should be soundly applauded. Yes, it’s Funeral Doom. It’s also Goth…and Prog. Fuck, you could even say it’s easy listening in places. One thing that is unarguable though is that it is completely and thoroughly engaging. It’s a piece of work that has many layers and levels and will draw you in and hold your attention. I imagine this is going to be a step too far for some fans, but for those who are willing to give this the time it deserves, this is a very fine piece of work and one which I feel is going to get even better with time. Highly recommended.

Anvil - Juggernaut of Justice CD 12.00
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEZICHQ-4LM
If you were to look up the word “perseverance” in the almighty handbook of heavy metal, there may very well be a photo of Canadian metalists, Anvil. Since their 1981 debut, “Hard N’ Heavy”, the group – which was co-founded by singer/guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner – has been listed by many as one of the creators of the thrash/speed metal genre (especially on such classics as 1982′s “Metal on Metal” and 1983′s “Forged In Fire”), but due to subsequent bad record deals, bad management, and just plain bad luck, Anvil appeared to take a back seat to a new wave of metal bands – most of which listed the group as a prime influence. However, Anvil has never stopped rocking, and with the arrival of the critically-acclaimed/surprise hit film, “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” (directed by Sacha Gervasi), the group is back where they belong – at the forefront of heavy metal. Armed with a new label home at The End Records, their fourteenth album “Juggernaut Of Justice” finds the band at the most ferocious (and catchy) they’ve ever been. The story of Anvil isn’t over, it is just beginning….

Argus - Boldly Stride The Doomed CD 12.00
http://www.youtube.com/user/arguspa
Argus had already arrived, but many of you seem to have missed the fucking memo. Consider this a world class opportunity to redeem yourself. This band deserves a dedicated place in your heart, whether yours is Sacred, Metal, or both. Merely calling Boldly Stride the Doomed a contender for album of the year (which it is) seems to cheapen the spirit herein. Argus isn’t about claiming any title at any given point in time. They aren’t about being compared to legends of the past or present. They are simply about making fist-in-the-air heavy metal of the highest order, and here they succeed effortlessly with an album equally musical, emotionally-charged, and balls-out-rockin’, but most importantly timeless. Novembers Doom - Aphotic CD 12.00
http://www.youtube.com/user/NovembersDoom1989
All in all progression is found on most fronts, and where it isn’t the band is just as strong as they previously stood. Precision and top notch song writing is capped off with engaging lyrics delivered in great form from Paul’s crushing fashion to guest appearances from both Anneke Van Giersbergen (The Gathering) and the legendary Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Nightingale). Swanö is also responsible for the exceptional sound quality on this release, having mixed the album and seemingly has become the bands go to guy in the studio.

Aphotic is yet another great release for this group out of Chicago. Mastering the art of melancholy, yet offering a sense of empowerment to the listener. This album will please the bands current fan base while garnering the attention of first time listeners, as well as those that have passed over their previous efforts.

Twisted Tower Dire - Make It Dark CD 12.00
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2hZcFOlJBY
“…the riffs of guitarists Scott Waldrop (While Heaven Wept) and Dave Boyd (Volture) are firmly in charge here on Make It Dark, re-presenting Twisted Tower Dire as one of the best hidden traditional metal acts in America today.” (Metal Army America)

update – all prices in Euro.

Mar De Grises - The Tatterdemalion Express CD 10.80
http://www.last.fm/music/Mar+De+Grises
If you’ve gotten tired of nearly every doom album being nearly identical to many others, Mar De Grises is for you. If you’re tired of doom being instantly digestible and growing tiresome after far too few listens, Mar De Grises is for you.

Spirit Disease - Retalitation CD 12.00
http://www.last.fm/music/Spirit+Disease
Now they have released all the anger and frustration into this second full length offering that shows the group crushing forward like a bull on steroids or a headless rhino, thrashing like a maniac! ”Retaliation” is even heavier than its predecessor, even though these old hogs can’t stray too far from their chosen path. The main focus is still on grinding death metal, although the members have done their homework among the ranks of Scum, Witheria, Evemaster and Grain, among others.

The Republic of Desire - Tower CD 12.00
http://www.last.fm/music/The+Republic+of+Desire
Lappeenrantalaista The Republic Of Desirea voidaan paremman sanan puutteessa kuvailla industrial metalliksi. Suurimmat vaikutteet tulevat alkuaikojen electro industrialista, martial industrialista, metallin puolelta kuuluvimpina vaikuttajina toimivat bändit kuten Neurosis ja Napalm Death. Yhtyeen musiikin genrerajat ovat häilyviä, eikä lokerointi miellytä. Tuloksena siis aidosti omaperäistä mäiskettä.

The Soulless - Isolated CD 12.00
http://www.youtube.com/user/thesoullessband
Isolated offers many of the expected qualities of a mainstream deathcore band and is a fluent and seemingly effortless venture into the genre. Guitarists Steve Brown and Kristan Dawson have a seemingly endless arsenal of riffs at their disposal, while vocalist Andie Wardles' performance, while occasionally lacking in variety, never lacks in substance or quality. The Soulless accentuate their influence from bands like Killswitch Engage as well as BMTH and even Cryptopsy, whom they have also toured alongside.

Wormrot - Dirge CD+DVD 13.00
http://www.last.fm/music/Wormrot
Savage new release from grindcore's hottest property Wormrot! Following hot on the heels of 2009's crushing debut 'Abuse', 'Dirge' offers up 25 ferocious slabs of punk-fueled grind of the highest calibre!

At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul/Purgatory Unleashed (2CD) €9.00
Death metal, Swedish, Melodic.

Diamond Plate - Generation Why? €12.00
"What Diamond Plate lack in subtlety and finesse, they more than make up for in raw aggression, brutality, and an obvious enthusiasm- never releasing the listener from the metaphorical steel vice of their music until the album’s well and truly over. "
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-uxeaO_4u4

Djevel - Dødssanger €12.00
For those who miss the cold and grim days of authentic Norwegian black metal of the 90s, but have certain reservations about music that is intentionally recorded and produced to sound as repulsive as possible might be interested to know that aside his duties in Kvelertak, vocalist Erlend Hjelvik has also produced less festive underground music together with Trond Ciekals of Ljå, and Mannevond of Khold and Urgehal fame. The project, which by their own words is black metal infused with a melodic darkness, is called - bluntly - Djevel, which should beg no translation; their debut album is called "Dødssanger", which translates roughly to "Death Songs"; and the artwork accompanying is equally morose, featuring two upside down crosses against distorted blackness. Voilá, with an effective first impression thus, the stage is set for one of the bleakest and forlorn albums likely to be released this year.
