Perhaps you philosophical/theological types can help me. I was reading a book called Eretica, a lovely little publication about profanity, morality and spirituality in art. In one chapter I came across an enigmatic word, that being
Kreaturgefuhl. I can only presume it has no direct English translation as none was provided, but if you could shed any light on its meaning i'd be extremely grateful.
I only know it has something to do with Rudolf Otto's concept of the
numinous . In a nutshell its a theory that expains religion in a psychological context, or as he put it a "non-rational, non-sensory experience or feeling whose primary and immediate object is outside the self". It can be defined as being a mystery (Latin:
mysterium) that is both terrifying
(tremendum) and fascinating
(fascinans).
My problem is that I know what those latin terms mean, but in the afforementioned book they were listed in a particular paragraph alongside this german word
Kreaturgefuhl. Has it got something to do with earlier/primal religions and is it meant to distinquish those from broader, philosphical orghanized faiths of the latter periods of human culture?
Sorry to bring up such a weird thread but i'm stumped. Please post your half-baked responses here
