I think some people place too much emphasis on tunings. I personaly tune in an Open B tuning. Only because it suits how I play and I like the spongy string feeling. It gives a nice low end on the sound is generaly nice. I do know a guy who thinks he is the creme dela creme of death detal. He writes all his songs in diffent tunings, going from B through to Gflat and stuff. I think he only owns one guitar though and the one and only time I went to his practice, he could only practice one of his songs cos of this.
Id search google to find out what band tunes to what, google knows eveything.

We stick to Eb (standard, just half a step down). I've played in bands that tune down as far as A and I ended up getting a 5 string (I'm mainly a bassist) b/c I couldn't deal w/ the string floppiness. I have a pretty heavy right hand and I kept hitting too hard and making the notes sharp.
