that really depends on what music and bands you like and (like you said), what your goals are. best just pick some records you like that aren't too tough and play along to them.
i learnt lots of useful stuff from playing along to helmet's "betty" album. fu manchu is fun to play along with. dead simple riffs, so you can work the songs out in no time and its easy to solo over too. but practice getting it tight and pro sounding, even though it is simple. i guess if you want something more metal sounding then sepultura or something maybe? chaos ad?
i'd recommend learning stuff by ear instead of tabs btw, unless you really do just want to play a few songs and not a lot else. but since you mentioned a guitar career, im guessing you'd hope to get past that stage eventually
