My buddy told me that buying a new soundcard for the PC i do recording on will improve the sound quality. For those in the know, what soundcard would you suggest for recording?

I'm not very up to date on these things anymore.
but what I have, which i bought specifically for recording, is the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS. It's got pretty good quality, and it comes with a bit which fits into one of your empty Drive Bays which allows much easier access (line in/out, aux, headphones, recording volume control etc). unfortunately i think they were discontinued, so it might be hard to find them now. don't confuse it with the ZS Platinum as it's bit which goes into the drive bay is completely different.
IMO you can't go too far wrong with a good Creative soundcard.
but then again, i'm not an expert

It depends on how much you want to spend, for the entry level stuff check out Edirol and M-Audio, i wouldn't go for Creative myself, but that's just me, best thing to do is just have a look around and see what works for you.
