The Whiplash Metalfest takes place over the Irish Bank Holiday Weekend from Friday July 29th to Sunday July 31st.

Sligo Rockers Festival Committee are glad to announce that Eyes Closed have now been confirmed to play on the first night of 'Whiplash' Friday 29th June. For those who aren't aware of the band they have in th epast played support to Machine Head, WASP and Paradise Lost among others.

There will also be an early evening gig on the Saturday On the Sunday between 2-6pm there will be a battle of the bands competition with another band playing a gig afterwards.

Both bands for both these gigs are more or less sorted and will post confirmation during the week.

I've said it already and I'll say it again. This is gonna be one savage weekend of metal, drink and craic. Definitely not for the faint hearted. This will be three nights and days of pure metal madness. Bring it on.

Seamie O Dowd and friends have been confirmed for the early evening gig on the Saturday for an evening of classics in the vein of Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher and other classic rock. For those that know Seamie, he needs no introduction or explanantion of his incredible musical talent. For those who haven't seen him play before, he is a top class musician who plays right across the musical spectrum from his involvement in Traditional Irish Group Dervish to playing hard rock and heavy metal music. He has more often than not blown away those bands he has supported in the past and I'm sure there are a few bands out there reading this now who if they were completely honest would admit that too.

Anyone who attended the Rory Gallagher festival in Ballyshannon will have him seen him on the Saturday evening outside Owen Roes perform one of the most blistering performances of the entire weekend. I cannot stress enough the musical genius of this man and I can guarantee everyone, this is gonna be one hell of a gig to warm people up for the main event on Saturday night. Admission to this gig as with the Battle of the bands and the early evening Sunday gig is FREE.

Miss this at your peril.
