Here's the first review for the zine, from Zero Tolerance by Mr. Alex York.
This is neither your ordinary, run-of-the-mill UG metal zine nor a full-blown publication. Rather, it is the very personal work of one Antti Korpinen (plus contributors): a collection of thoughts and images on extreme music topics and in-depth, extended interviews that go far beyond merely touching on the subjects within. The focus is very much on UGBM (and UGDM to a lesser extent) and those who form these complex scenes, not merely with details of artists' latest releases but their thoughts and attitudes to music, life, religion, nature and everything in between. Initial interview questions are answered and many pages later (17-odd in one case!) countless other topics have been covered, making this a fascinating read. Highlights include Wolevs in the Throne Room, Reverorum Ib Malacht and Thy Serpent. This B / W, A4 zine is highly unique but sadly may end up being a once-per-year limited-print publication, but if that ensures the quality and depth is upheld, then that's fine by me. The 7 Euro price-tag is absolutely justified, too.
5 (out of 6)

Here's another review, this one's by M. Kuronen of Quadrivivium (the issue #5 of which is out now, btw).
We will need to conclude with The Serpent Bearer #1. Not only is it the freshest journal here, it is without any doubt one of the best alongside Metal and Davthvs. It is unbelievably healthy to read literature on dark metal topics with a proper journalistic approach. The stories, written in a form of English both descriptive and clever, have a beginning, an end and what is more important, a perspective. By the time you've reached the twilight of each text, you're bound to have learned something. The issue has seriously-minded quality interviews with the likes of Jumalhämärä, Caïna, Wolves in the Throne Room and Thy Serpent, but what struck me as most valued of all was the eloquent yet funny piece on Ignivomous, with its Manowar moments of death, musings on "Memento Mori" and jovial aversions to progressive DM. The well-versed and varied label report on Paradigms Recordings, the politically focused chat with John Cobbett from Hammers of Misfortune, and the artist vs. artist review between Caïna and Jumalhämärä did not hurt either. Vol. 1 also has the lengthiest zine interview I have ever seen. The 21 pages of the Reverorum ib Malacht interrogation are a showmanship of narcissistic word diarrhea and volte-face Christian liturgy but not very profoundly relevant at that. If there's one distinct point of complaint within these 76 pages, it is that the layout could be more condense and semantically meaningful. More discerning opinions would do no harm, either. Otherwise, this is top of its fucking class.

20 copies of this fucker still available. After these are gone, the zine will be sold out (forever, probably).
