Feeling the need for some more horror-synth/eerie prog in my life... can anyone make any suggestions beyond John Carpenter, Goblin and Zombi?

Check out Mirai Kawashima's solo stuff - not sure what name it was released under -
plus they're not really 'creepy' or 'prog-rock' but Greymachine might be appealing to you, features Justin Broadrick + Aaron Turner of Isis.

I'd recomend HP Lovecraft and The Phantom's Phantom's Divine Comedy. The latter is more Psych than prog but has a nicely twisted atmosphere, the fromer is a slow build almost ambient band that has some nicely dark prog atmosphere, either of thier albums is good, although you can pick up both in a one release. They don't rock out with heavy grooves like Goblin but are appropriately dark.

Thanks dudes, some good prog there! Cant seem to find any of Kamashima's solo stuff though.... And YES! re Miasma & The Carousel Of Headless Horses! Had forgotten about them, heard them at a mates house some time ago and they sounded great. On retrospect I suppose what I'm looking for most of all is unsettling, pulsing, minimalist synth... I expect everyone here knows the score to The Thing but here it is anyway..... man I love this stuff. The importance of atmospheric music is so overlooked in modern mainstream film, it really pisses me off, nearly as much as how utterly shit 99% of cgi effects look. But anyway... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5d8Pskc ... re=related

AKLO's sounding good man, especially liking the "TILLINGHAST LABORATORIES SENSITIVE DOCUMENT" artwork/concept, even though its nothing hugely original. Kinda get a Reverence-type feel from it. Massive fan of the film Event Horizon, so anything that takes me to that kind of fucked-up, hallucinatory SF/horror headspace is a winner for me.
Cant find any werewolf ensemble clips, but will keep looking.
Svarte Greiner sound interesting but whats with all the audio clips of the 8-year old kid on horse-tranquillisers? did I miss something??

Come to think of it, the piano passages in the AKLO tracks have reminded me of The Darkness Within... a stunning-looking, really old-school Myst-style first-person point and click adventure game set in the Lovecraftian universe and with a creepy-as-hell minimalist pinao/synth driven score mixed with periods of abyssic silence. While im on it, anyone remember the CD audio tracks from the old FPS game BLOOD? Awesome stuff man, monastic chanting/singing, ethereal sounds of kids laughing.. twisted circus music, heavy, distorted breathing mixed with thich waves of synth.... took it camping once and successfully scared the shit out of everyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr9S0Xxl ... re=relatedCheesy perhaps, but in a good way. Best experienced on headphones at 4am. Another good one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IndXRdZL ... re=related
