Does anyone else think that 'selling out' in essence doesn't really relate to commercial gain anymore?
Doing what others expect you to for some sort of percieved reward or further acceptance seems to me to be more the territory of underground death metal and black metal in the UK these days.
Not that there aren't plenty of bands in both those camps that I can't get enough of, but there seems to be this vibe that if a band differentiates from putting out the exact same tunes as the three others they share a bill with, some people see it as a sign to start looking down their noses.
Is conforming to this another form of selling out?
