About the CD:
Featuring members of Three Mile Pilot, Staccato Reads, and Rocket from the Crypt, A Day Called Zero combines math rock complexity, emo sensitivity, and experimental innovation to create a dynamic and disturbing sound that cuts past language and signs to connect with something more visceral and basic. There is something languid and sinister about the guitars that recalls Slint, which, combined with complicated drums and the overall paucity of vocals, serves to make you a little bit tense, somehow a slightly more conscious of how small you are and how much world there is around you. When vocals do appear, they are relatively de-emphasized in the mix, creating a sense of resigned, musing lamentation. The long, five-minute songs on A Day Called Zero's Gravity Records CD are full of dynamic shifts -- hesitations and retreats, careful approaches, sudden stops. Upon careful listening you will realize how peculiarly beautiful this music is -- not in the ways you typically think of things as being beautiful, but in a way that is awkward, irregular, and profoundly genuine.
