Although it doesn't really go with the crux of the thread, this is the only real "film debate" kind of thread on here my comment would be applicable to so...
Am I the only one that just doesn't "get" the whole appeal of the Transformers films?
After having deliberately avoided them on cinematic and DVD/blu release thanks to having a bitter hatred for everything Shia Leboeuf ever does - including breathing - I resolved to watch the first one last night and give it the benefit of the doubt. I say 'resolved', it was more a case of getting dinner and there's a TV in teh kitchen.
What a pile of fucking shit. I'd rather watch those old Renault (?) commercials on loop for the same amount of time than watch Megan Fox or Shite-a Leboeuf try and act their way out of a paper bag. Fuck, I've seen more intelligent, nerdy, thrilling or just plain less painful to watch sci-fi shite on the BBC than in that entire film, especially after the Renault commercials.

I do think it's amazing how bad they made the Transformers movie (only saw the first one). I was never a fan of the toys/cartoon etc, but even so, all I really wanted was a movie where giant robots go around destroying stuff - and they couldn't even get that right. I mean how hard can it be to make a cool movie about giant robots with the budget they had?? Actually, I never really understood why the Transformers felt the need to disguise as cars and stuff. I get it from a 'cool toys' point of view, but as a sci fi concept it just doesn't work for me. Kind of like the computer or whatever it is giving people fictional lives in The Matrix - why would it bother??

I am a humongous Transformers geek and am very willing to sacrifice plot in the name of robots beating the shit out of one another. Having said that, Citizen Michael Bay should be shot in the nads.
Here is a summary of both films
A) Second to worst Megatron B) All moments with robots fighting are awesome C) Jetfire is awesome D) Any moment that is not robots fighting is shit E) Soundwave! <3
And as a pooftah not even Megan Fox looking like she charges extortionate amounts for head redeems it. Fuck off.

Megan Fox is overrated. She's gone from looking somewhat bang tidy to just looking like weird, not to mention she's as mental as a bag of cats.
As for why the Matrix would create false lives for people, that's simple. It's practically sci-fi 101. "The machines" - to borrow a phrase from Terminator - switched to using human beings as their power source when the humans blacked out the sun in an attempt to power the machines down. Using human beings as their power source they need a way to restrict their free will, keep them immobile and immune from the truth, that way the machines can go on harvesting the bio-electrical energy the human body naturally produces as a means to powering themselves. Ignorance, as the saying goes, is bliss.
Hence the whole spiel about the red pill or the blue pill. In effect, before it went all pompous and overly-convoluted, the Matrix was a metaphor for the totalitarian state.

I thought it was a metaphor for never trusting a computer too big to chuck out of a window...

Soundwave has been a let down in the transformers so far. Looking at transformers in its best form, there was no way it could ever cross over to a hollywood film and still be good as lets be honest, the cartoon was cheesy as hell!! To appreciate it, you have to expect it to be shit, the action scenes and sound effects are awesome on blu ray and a decent surround sound, more so in the second with the fight scene in the woods! Megan Fox has messed up thumbs but despite that the only reason she was put there was to look fit and anyone who disagrees is blatantly batting for Best Mans' side or secretly sits at home wanking over endless amounts of internet porn without leaving the house. Either way, she has been replaced in the 3rd film with;

The Transformers were fairly realistic. But then animators seemed to take the day off when making Shia Leboeuf.
