I'm deeply interested in performance art. I like solitary artists working alone or with another artist/associate. Some of the best ideas and critical theory to come out of art in the last 3 decades can be sourced (in my opinion) from the performance/body art genres.
Despite this i'm not a big fan of overabundant performance/body art involving loads of volunteers that came about mostly during the 80s/90s. I always get the feeling that it turns into an event based on quantity over quality. I'll post a because these pictures are very gory and definately NSFW.

Despite what the art world insists I just don't find Hermann Nitsch that shocking or interesting. Just excessive and vainglorious, and the same goes with a lot of the other Vienesse Actionists as well. Silly macho exaggerations - he should stick to his blood splatter paintings.



I feel the same way about Joanthan Meese. I love his monstrous germanic clay sculptures and brutish drawings/paintings and his messy overcrowded installations. I just wish he wouldn't then turn up with beer and a loudspeaker and start bleating pseudoanarchic post-berlin wall nonsense.
